Mr Michael Boneham, MD & President, Ford India, expressed his excitement on the new development stating, “We are thrilled to see Ford’s latest world-class premium sedan rolling off the Chennai assembly line, continuing India’s emergence as a regional manufacturing hub for Ford. We are committed to growing our operations in Tamil Nadu and bringing new products to India in the coming years.”
Earlier this year, Ford Motors announced that in an attempt to increase their market share in the Indian auto industry, they will be launching 8 new models within the next 2 years. The new Ford Fiesta is the 1st car to be launched under this strategy.
Ford Motors recently invested another $72 million at their Maraimalai unit for expanding powertrain facility and increasing their production. Once the expansion of powertrain facility is complete, annual capacity will be increased from 2.5 lakhs to 3.3 lakhs. Available in petrol and diesel engine options, new Ford Fiesta will give a mileage of 17 kmpl and 23.5 kmpl respectively.
