LG Electronics, the world’s third- largest mobile phone maker, unveiled Thursday its new three- dimensional (3-D) smartphone model Optimus 3D.
The tech firm said in an e-mailed statement it will start receiving pre-orders for the Optimus 3D smartphone from Friday, while releasing the new model exclusively through South Korea’s top wireless carrier SK Telecom.
The Optimus 3D, equipped with dual core processor, can record, play back and share 3-D images and videos, according to the statement. The 4.3-inch 3D screen will make users enjoy 3-D images without wearing special glasses.
The company said Optimus 3D was the first smartphone that can upload, download and play back 3-D videos.
LG Electronics seems to hope the new smartphone model can revive its loss-making mobile business. The tech firm’s mobile- phone division had an operating loss of 100.5 billion won (94.5 million U.S. dollars) in the first quarter.
